Long-running restaurant site to be sold with ‘potential for flats’

The site of a long-running Westbury-on-Trym restaurant will go up for auction next month.

British Raj, which opened in 1984, is based in a Passage Road building set to go on sale on June 17, with a guide price of £450,000.

An estate agent at Maggs and Allen told Bristol Live: “It’s a corner building with a triple-fronted ground floor restaurant and two flats above.

“It is in need of refurbishment and it has potential for a full conversion to flats, subject to planning consent.

“It could be a mixed use investment. There are lots of options – you could retain the commercial use downstairs. It’s a prominent spot right on the corner, you can't miss it.”

British Raj’s website remains online, offering the “finest and freshest Indian cuisine”, with “curries, specials, masalas, biryanis and much more”. It has an average rating of 3.5 stars on TripAdvisor after 56 reviews.

Google does not list the restaurant as permanently closed. Customers posted online reviews as recently as three months ago.

Bristol Live has approached the business for comment on its future.

Maggs and Allen says there will be a live online auction at 6pm on June 17.

Anyone interested must register beforehand to bid. You can call Maggs and Allen on 01179734940.
