A building which operated as a newsagent's for more than 100 years has reopened as a cake shop.
Experienced cake makers and good friends Sarah Ridge and Sonia Mealing have combined their talents to launch The Cake House in Church Road, Redfield.
The shop, which has replaced long-running Windmill News, sells a range of cakes made on site by the pair.
People can also order bespoke cakes to be made for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.
Before launching the new venture, Sarah was running Rosie Shaw Cake Company while Sonia was heading up Quirky Cakes Bristol, which both operated from a site further up Church Road.
"We have worked so well together at Rosie Shaw for the past five years so we thought we would combine our two businesses and expand by opening our own shop," said Sarah, 33.
"We didn't know what to expect but the response was really positive when we opened at the weekend.
"It's really nice being able to talk to customers face-to-face, which isn't something we were used to before.
The range of cakes on offer for customers to take away includes cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more.
There is also an extensive range of vegan and gluten-free options to ensure everyone is catered for.
"Having been based up at Rosie Shaw, we've always loved this area and when this premises became available we knew it was the perfect opportunity," added Sarah.
"Getting the shop ready for the launch was definitely a bigger project than we were expecting and there were a few hiccups along the way, but we're so happy to finally be up and running.
"Other businesses in the community have been so lovely and welcoming."
