Long-running Glassboat in Bristol reopens as new seafood restaurant

A new fish restaurant and takeaway has opened in Bristol, replacing a fine dining establishment that stood for decades.

FiSH has launched in Welsh Back on the boat which for 35 years was home to Glassboat, serving up beer-battered fish and chips, seafood dishes and shellfish you crack open with a hammer.

The majority of seafood that makes up the menu at FiSH will be delivered by boats from Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, with sustainability front of mind.

As well as beer-battered fish and chips with tartare sauce, the dine-in menu includes dishes such as scallops grilled in garlic butter, devilled whitebait, Cornish lobster either grilled with herb butter or cold with mayonnaise and Cornish hake fillet with olive oil, parsley and garlic.

Diners will be able to choose from sides such as chipped or new potatoes, mashed peas and bread and butter, while desserts include crème brûlée and bitter chocolate mousse with honeycomb and cultured cream.

Alongside the full Fish Supper of fish and chips, mashed peas and tartare sauce, the takeaway will also serve plaice fried in breadcrumbs, house-made salmon fish cakes, fried squid, shell-on prawns and whitebait.

There will also be daily specials created depending on the seasonal catch from the south west, as well as the option to just order a portion of chips to takeaway.

Head chef Jake Platt said: "Despite the challenges of the current climate, we’ve loved putting FiSH together and hope it will be relaxed, fun and even a bit of a theatrical affair.

"It will be a place for friends and families to come and sit by the water whether it’s for fish and chips or a quick bowl of mussels steamed in cider or to stay and enjoy a longer meal.

"Think cracked Dorset crab with mayonnaise, or fruits de mer with oyster, half Dorset crab, mussels and boiled prawns, or a whole grilled sole with herb butter.

"And of course, our beer-battered fish. We want simplicity to prevail when it comes to FiSH."

Drinks-wise, there will be a selection of gluten-free beers on tap, Iford cider, soft drinks and a simple wine list with a leaning towards natural wine.

The restaurant won’t be taking reservations for those wanting to dine in and will have a separate takeaway order and collection entrance, with benches outside to sit by the water and enjoy.

Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options will be available.

Keep an eye on FiSH’s social media for further details about restaurant specials and offers.
