Long range North East weather forecast sees rain coming and unsettled conditions in July

The North East weather is set to turn a bit damper after a period of reasonably warm and dry period. According to the Met Office, today (June 27) will see a band of rain moving across the region which will turn showery as it gradually pushes eastwards during the morning.

Some showers are likely to be heavy with a risk of thunder. Sunny spells are expected widely in the afternoon as showers become increasingly isolated with a maximum temperature of 18C.

Tonight will see largely clear skies. The cloud will steadily thicken from the west overnight, with a chance of some patchy light rain over higher ground in western parts by dawn with a minimum temperature 8C.

Moving into Tuesday, the weather will remain fine but increasingly cloudy with short-lived spells of hazy sunshine. Outbreaks of rain or showers slowly pushing east through the day, feeling fresh by the coast, with a maximum temperature of 17C.

The Met Office says there will be variable amounts of cloud Wednesday and Thursday with sunny spells and scattered, locally heavy showers. Drier and brighter Friday, maybe with the odd light shower, with temperatures near normal.

Moving into July, there will be sunny spells for many with a few scattered showers at the beginning of next month, some of which will be locally heavy and possibly thundery across Scotland. Winds are expected to be light generally but moderate at times, especially in the northwest and near heavy showers.

The unsettled conditions are likely to be confined to the north of the country as we move further through the period, perhaps bringing some longer spells of rain to this region. Temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly below normal in the north but above normal in the south.
