Long queues reported at Nottingham polling stations

Long queues have been reported across the county as voters head out for the general election.

Scores of people were pictured waiting in the rain outside a polling station at St Andrew's Church in Goldsmith Street, near Nottingham Trent University.

The polling station covers the Nottingham East constituency, where Chris Leslie - previously of the Labour party and now of the Independent Group for Change - has held the seat since 2010.

Other candidates standing in Nottingham East are: Damian Smith, Brexit Party, Victoria Stapleton, Conservatives; Robert Swift, Liberal Democrats; Michelle Vacciana, Green Party and Nadia Whittome, Labour Party.

Queues have also been reported in St Ann's, which is in Nottingham East, and at the Nottingham Contemporary, which serves the Nottingham South constituency.

It reflects a similar picture across most of the rest of the country, with voters reporting on social media that they had queued to get into their polling station.

Nottinghamshire Live will be providing comprehensive coverage of the results as they are announced throughout tonight. Follow us on @nottslive on Twitter or follow our live blog.
