Long queues on top of Pen Y Fan as miles of cars are seen parked on grass verges

Hundreds of people have been queuing for up to 30 minutes to have their photo taken on top for Pen Y Fan for a second day. Cars are lining both sides of the A470 as hikers flock to the Brecon Beacons in the bright sunshine.

Ranked as one of the most picturesque rural walks in the UK, it has proved a popular spot for people to go to over the Easter weekend.

It has been helped by the dry and sunny weather that marked the start of the bank holiday weekend. Read how the weather is forecast to change here.

Pictures from the summit on Saturday show hundreds waiting in the glorious sunshine for the chance to take a picture.

Police in the area have warned that speed restrictions are in place and have warned motorists to look out for pedestrians.

On Friday, more than 40 vehicles were towed away in the Snowdonia area after police warned that the illegal parking was posing a threat to life.

A statement from North Wales Police said: "The irresponsible and dangerous parking we witnessed in Pen y Pass and Llyn Ogwen yesterday (Good Friday) not only risks lives, but also prevents emergency vehicle access.

"Almost 40 vehicles parked dangerously on the narrow mountain routes were recovered yesterday, including 29 near Llyn Ogwen and nine in Pen y Pass.

"Parking in other parts of Eryri National Park will continue to be monitored over the Bank Holiday weekend."
