Long queues at Primark in Cardiff as non-essential shops in Wales reopen after the fire-break lockdown

Large queues were seen outside a Primark store this morning as non-essential shops reopen in Wales following a two-week fire-break lockdown.

People were seen queuing outside Primark's Cardiff store before its reopening on Monday morning.

Shoppers were seen queuing socially distant outside the store on Queen Street, which does not have an online shop.

The large queue spiralled around the store, passed the EE shop and down a nearby alley.

Some are already asking if the queues indicate First Minister Mark Drakeford lifted the lockdown too soon - follow updates from his 12.15pm press conference here.

Similar queues were seen inside the store just two weeks ago as shoppers queued to get their last minute shopping done before the closure of non-essential retail.

By 11pm, the main high street was full of people carrying their shopping bags and the queue of Primark continued to grow.

City centres across Wales will be open and trading for the first time in two weeks today.

Many retailers will be pleased to see the return of shoppers in Wales just as stores across England are closed.

New Look are offering all shoppers 25% off throughout the week as they welcome back people to their stores in Wales.

Wales entered a two-week fire-break lockdown on October 23 which has come to an end today, Monday, November 9.

From today, people in Wales are asked to follow a new set of rules, which includes forming a bubble with one other household and maintain social distancing.

A full list of the new rules can be found here.
