Long queues and heavy traffic after four-vehicle smash partially blocks major route

Traffic is building in the centre of Bury after a four-car crash partially blocked a major route.

There are long queues on the A58 Rochdale Road after a crash between four vehicles this afternoon (Tuesday) blocked the eastbound carriageway of the street, heading away from the town centre.

The collision has left both sets of traffic needing to use one lane to pass, resulting in long delays in the nearby area.

Emergency services are on the scene, close to Openshaw Park, with pictures showing paramedics and police officers working to clear the incident.

The section between Pine Street South and Wash Lane is seeing the worst of the traffic, although queues are building up further afield.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 2.13pm today, June 29, police were called to a report of a four vehicle road traffic collision on Rochdale Road, Bury.

"Police and fire attended the scene. No injuries were reported.

"The road is currently partially blocked while clean-up of the road takes place."

Transport for Greater Manchester have urged drivers to leave more time for their journeys than usual if they're travelling in the area.

A post on their Twitter page read: "A58 Rochdale Road, Bury is blocked traveling eastbound due to an RTC near the junction with Beech St.

"Traffic is using the wrong side of the carriageway to pass the incident, allow extra time for your journey."
