Plans to turn an empty Grade-II listed coach house into a food deli have been given the go ahead.
Proposals to transform The Coach House on Caerphilly Road in Bassaleg, Newport, into a delicatessen selling food and drink were given the green light from the council this week.
The plans were first submitted in November 2020 and included proposals for a takeaway and tables for dining in, as well as a pizza oven.

However, a revised version of the application, which was made by Nadia Singh Ltd, removed the takeaway and eat-in elements, as well as the pizza oven due to concerns over the size of the flue and the impact it would have on the building.
The Coach House is believed to have been built in the mid 19th century as the coach house to the adjacent inn, now the Tredegar Arms pub.
It was later Grade-II listed as a "little altered mid-19th century coach-house with Tudor detail" including coach doors, slate roof and gabled centre.
In recent years it has been privately owned and mostly vacant other than use as storage. The deli proposals include no provision for parking at the site.
While some elements of the building will be modernised, others such as its stone and brickwork walls will be repaired, with the applicants saying that "restoring the former Coach House back into a use will beneficial the community and prolong its life."
