Long-awaited improvements to popular children's play area are completed

A Nottinghamshire council has completed long-awaited improvements to a popular play area which include new slides, swings and climbing frames.

The works, at Titchfield Park in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, have been funded by Ashfield District Council and also include "inclusive play equipment".

It comes as part of wider investment into play areas across the district, with more than £1 million to be spent on park improvements by March next year.

This includes a new park at Annesley Recreation Ground and further improvement works at Skegby Road Recreation Ground.

A further £366,000 is being spent on other play areas in the district on top of earlier investment topping £1.5 million.

Councillor Daniel Williamson, who represents Kirkby Cross for the Ashfield Independents, welcomed the Kirkby-in-Ashfield improvements.

He said: "We are delighted that the play equipment has finally been upgraded at Titchfield Park in Kirkby, it was neglected for too long.

"I am glad to hear that our younger residents have been enjoying the new play area that they deserve.

"We are so excited for all the upcoming work that will be happening across Kirkby, including the long-awaited leisure centre.

"The council has also been working on the plans for the £750,000 from the accelerated Towns Fund which has to be spent by March 2021."
