Long Ashton car fire: firefighters issue update

Firefighters in Bristol were called to tackle a car fire on Tuesday evening.

A VW Golf was ablaze on the Long Ashton bypass to the south-west of the city earlier in the evening.

Thankfully, firefighters confirmed there were no casualties following the vehicle fire. But they said the car was left badly damaged.

Bedminster Fire Station, which tackled the blaze, released a dramatic picture from the scene, showing smoke billowing from the vehicle as a firefighter wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire at close range.

Confirming the details on Twitter just before 11pm on Tuesday, the fire crew said: "We responded to a car fire on the Long Ashton bypass earlier this evening. No casualties but a badly damage VW Golf."

People are reminded to dial 999 in an emergency, or otherwise call Avon Fire and Rescue Service on 0117 926 2061.

The fire service can also be contacted via the brigade's website here.
