'Lonely' Serial killer Peter Tobin confined to his cell after Covid outbreak

Serial killer Peter Tobin has been banned from having visitors at HMP Edinburgh after the prison was hit with a Covid outbreak.

The 'lonely' inmate, who has cancer, is confined to his cell at the prison after his wing went into lockdown.

It comes after prison chiefs confirmed 785 prisoners in the prison estate are self-isolating, with a number of those due to potential contact with a confirmed case.

There are 92 confirmed cases of Covid in nine prisons in Scotland.

A prison source told our sister title the Daily Record: “The beast wing and half of Ingliston hall at Saughton are locked down because of the virus.

"Tobin, who rarely comes out of his cell, is bored because there’s no contact with anyone except his nurses and prison guards.

“His pals aren’t allowed in to see him while they’re all isolated to help stop the spread. He’s double jabbed and is due his booster soon too as he was vaccinated very early.”

“He’s a horrible old man but he’s really lonely and has had the prison listeners over a few times as nobody else really wants to spend time with him.

"He doesn’t get any visits from the outside either, so whenever anyone ventures into his cell he will talk and talk, especially about what he did. He thinks he’s untouchable.”

The murderer is serving life sentences for killing three young girls between 1991 and 2006.

He butchered Angelica Kluk, 23, Vicky Hamilton, 15 and Dinah McNicol, 18, but has also been linked to a string of unsolved deaths across Britain.
