A cyclist was stabbed in the shoulder after being targeted by a thugs who demanded he hand over money.

The man, in his early 20s, was confronted by four young men on bikes outside a church in Shernhall Street, Walthamstow,  east London, at 6pm on Monday.

The group demanded money but, when he said he had no cash on him, one of the youths stabbed him, police said.

The suspects, who were black and wearing black clothing, then fled the scene, near Our Lady & St. George churchyard, on their bikes.

The victim was taken to hospital with a wound to his shoulder.

Neighbours reported seeing the man lying on the floor being covered in a thermal blanket after paramedics attended the scene.

It is thought the victim was a food-delivery cyclist, who was working at the time.

His injuries are not life threatening or changing and he has been discharged from hospital.

There have been no arrests, a police spokesman said.
