Londoners react as Scots man trying to kill time asks how to spend night in city

A Scots man who asked how he might kill time after midnight was told to stand outside Downing Street and scream by Londoners who quickly answered his question.

The traveller was contemplating on how he might save a bit of cash and explore the city at night, instead of forking out for a hotel room.

He asked Londoners for advice on what to do after his train from Edinburgh arrived in London King's Cross station in the late evening.

One amusing response to his question suggested he head straight to Downing Street, MyLondon reports.

Posting on Reddit, the man said: “I'll be arriving in London King's Cross station from Edinburgh late evening, and I am second guessing if I should book a hotel (and spend just about six hours) or just kill time somewhere. But where? And where safe?”

One joker replied: “Head along to Downing Street and just spend all night screaming at the top of your lungs, you'd be doing us all a great service.”

Others responded with more practical advice and suggested braving McDonalds if he could endure six-hours there.

One said: “The McDonalds near KX is open 24 hours, not sure what it would be like to spend six hours in there but I have friends who used to hang out there waiting for the first train after drag shows."

Another added: “Six hours is a fair amount of time to occupy at night. You could go to McDonalds, a casino, out drinking, or hire a Santander cycle and explore the sights at night.

“Personally, I'd find a cheap hostel and get my head down. Even if you have to get the Tube/bus somewhere like Holland Park (you can get a bed there for £15-20 if you book in advance).”

A fourth suggested hitting up Central London’s casinos, even if he wasn’t a massive gambler. They wrote: “Maybe a bit of a different take here: the casinos in Leicester Square are very nice, even if you don’t want to gamble. It’s open all night as far as I know and there are many chill areas to have some food or beer. The atmosphere is much better compared to some dodgy late night pubs!"

And a fifth person answered: “London very much shuts at 11pm. Some of the bigger clubs are open until 2/3am (mostly the gay clubs). Duck & Waffle is 24hr but not the cheapest option. The money you will spend hanging around in bars/clubs would be better spent on a hotel IMO!"
