A London woman has admitted killing her paralysed sister, who died after contracting sepsis from bed sores.
Michelle Neill, 55, on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 48-year-old Kelly Neill by gross negligence.
The older sister had called for an ambulance to attend the family home in Deptford, south London, on the morning of 20 October 2022.
Paramedics found the victim on the floor of the living room in unsanitary conditions, surrounded by dirt, decay and clutter.
She was distressed, non-verbal and groaning, having been partially paralysed due to a stroke in January 2018.
She was taken to St Thomas’s hospital in London and died on 23 October 2022.
A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was sepsis, due to multiple skin ulcers and the previous stroke.
The victim was said to be living in “toxic” conditions, with her sister having taken over as sole carer following the death of their mother.
The Old Bailey on Wednesday heard that Neill unlawfully killed her sister by breaching her duty of care, having failed to summon help by way of medical assistance for her.
Following her guilty plea, Judge Richard Marks KC adjourned sentence for a report to be prepared and granted Neill continued bail.
The sentencing will take place at the Old Bailey on a date to be fixed.
