A 50-year-old woman has become the UK’s oldest mother of quadruplets, defying million-to-one odds.
Tracey Britten, a grandmother-of-eight, has hailed her IVF babies a “miracle” after they were delivered by a team of 35 medics.
Ms Britten, from London, said she “can’t wait to get them home” after she gave birth to her quadruplets - three girls a boy – by caesarean last week.
Speaking to the Sun, the mother, who also has three grown-up children and eight grandchildren, described the experience as a “whirlwind”.
She told the newspaper: “It’s been a whirlwind and I’m so grateful. One of the quads has had so many tubes around her that I haven’t seen her face properly.
“The babies have not all been together yet, each hooked up to different machines.”
The new-borns are all said to be doing well in London’s University College Hospital, where they were delivered, and Ms Britten said she hoped they would be home for Christmas.
The news comes after it was revealed earlier this year that she was carrying the quads after spending £7,000 on IVF in Cyprus.
Giving birth to quadruplets is extremely rare. In June, St George’s hospital in Tooting, south London, delivered its first set quadruplets in 13 years.
Only two such births were recorded in England and Wales in 2014, three in 2015 and five in 2016.
