London week ahead: true blue Boris and those 'Tory-led' cuts

The starry part of London Assembly business is this month's Mayor's Question Time on Wednesday. Boris Johnson will be interrogated about measures to control the capital's air pollution, the reduction or otherwise of safer neighbourhood teams in Mitcham and, coinciding with George Osborne's budget, his view of the effects on London of a number of government spending cuts. Those latter will be Labour members' way of pinning a big blue rosette on the Mayor and suggesting to Londoners they vote for the Labour candidate at next May's mayoral election. I'll be watching the webcast.

The following day the economic development committee will continue its investigation of skills and employment opportunities in the 2012 Olympics. Guests will include the mayor's Olympics co-ordinator Neale Coleman and Locog chief executive Paul Deighton.

My agenda this week includes looking at the sorts of homes that might be built on the Olympic Park in the years following the Games and examining the masterplan for the controversial redevelopment of Earls Court. A few hours from now I'll be listening to the accents of some Hackney school children. With luck you too will be able to listen to them before the week is through.
