London weather: Rain predicted before ‘dry, sunny’ Bank Holiday weekend

Heavy rain is set to hit London before making way for a “largely dry, sunny” bank holiday, says the Met Office.

The capital is in for “quite a lot of rainfall” from Thursday, a spokesman told the Standard, but no weather warnings are in place.

The Met Office’s Grahame Madge said on Wednesday: “By tomorrow some of those showers could be quite heavy. At the moment we’re not particularly concerned about issuing a [weather] warning.”

But from Friday, the rain should largely clear up to make way for a sunny Summer Bank Holiday.

Mr Madge described London’s weekend forecast for the weekend as “pretty good”.

“[The capital can expect] clear conditions from Friday morning through into the weekend,” he said. “Maybe the odd shower here and there, but pretty dry and bright.”

He added that the temperature forecast remains up in the air and will depend on where a system of high pressure - which generally brings find, warm weather - builds and settles.

“We could get temperatures of 30C or so which before a bank holiday weekend is very pleasant, or we could see temperatures more towards the mid-20s,” he said.

For example Northolt, in west London, could see temperatures anywhere between 29C and the low 20s on Monday.

“That four, five or six degree difference will depend on where that high pressure builds,” said Mr Madge.

“But the capital is going to be largely dry with plenty of sunshine - maybe the odd shower, but any showers will be light and temporary.”
