London weather latest: Travel misery for commuters enters second day as flooding halts services again

Commuters are facing travel misery for the second day running after bad weather halted services again.

Heavy rain and flooding on the railways have affected services in and out of London, with Southern Rail customers being urged to consider alternative routes.

It comes after passengers were hit by severe delays and told not to travel on Tuesday morning after nearly one month’s worth of rain fell in the South East overnight.

Southern Rail were forced to cancel services on several routes on the network, with travel chaos lasting most of the day.

Today, the transport operator warned services between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes were suspended “due to heavy rain and flooding”.

The disruption was likely to last until 12pm, it added.

There is also a fault with the signalling system between Beckenham Junction and Birkbeck, Southern added, meaning no trains are able to call at Beckenham Junction.

Frustrated customers vented about the delays, as one traveller replied to Southern Rail to say: “Not surprising really”.

Tom Hayward sad: “Where is the flooding on the line that mean you have to suspend ALL west London line trains between Croydon and Milton Keynes.”

The Met Office have warned more rain is expected to hit the capital today and Thursday, with “heavy and perhaps thundery rain” forecasted.
