London weather forecast: Fog warning across capital before heavy rain hits on weekend

A weather warning is in place across south east England this morning after parts of London woke up to a blanket of fog.

A yellow weather warning has been issued until 11am for London and surrounding areas, with visibility reduced.

Drivers have been warned to take care on the roads, with some parts of the country facing visibility as low as 80m.

It could be the same again on Thursday morning, with the Met Office warning that the fog could also move into the Midlands.

However, the end of the week is expected to be mild and fog free, before moving into a wet weekend.

Luke Miall, a meteorologist at the Met Office said: "This morning's fog will melt away by the end of this morning.

"At this time of year the sun is a bit weaker, so we may see isolated areas of fog staying until this afternoon in some places.

"We can expect frost and fog as we go into tomorrow, maybe moving up into the Midlands. This will likely be the last night of fog this week."

He added: "Over the weekend, it is expected to be around nine or 10 degrees.

"Saturday will be mostly dry but heavy rain will move across the country on Sunday."

There are also weather warnings for rain in place for the north west of Scotland on Thursday and Friday.

The downpours will move south, but are expected to showers by the time they get to England.
