London weather: Capital to enjoy mild spring conditions after weekend of wind

London is expected to enjoy mild spring weather this week as parts of the country continue to be battered by winds of up to 75mph.

Temperatures in the capital will climb to 19C following some “sharp, short showers” on Monday and Tuesday.

Met Office spokesperson Oli Claydon told the Standard there will be “relatively settled weather through the week” in London, with no weather warnings in place.

He said: “It’s generally not too bad a week ahead. It will be quite a blustery evening tonight with a couple of residual showers into Tuesday morning but that will clear as we go through Tuesday.

“By Friday you could see a little bit more brightness and it will be remaining dry in London with the chances of sunshine.

“London will see a pretty benign week of weather apart from the showers through this evening.”

Meanwhile, areas of Cornwall and Devon could see 75mph gusts on Monday night, with a yellow wind warning in place from 4pm on Monday to 6am on Tuesday.

Further yellow wind warnings have been issued for southern England, from 9pm on Monday to midday on Tuesday, and coastal areas of Wales, from 1am to 3pm on Tuesday.

The blustery conditions follow Storm Kathleen, the 11th named storm of the 2023/24 season, which brought disruption to weekend travel.

The storm left thousands of passengers delayed after about 140 flights were cancelled amid winds of up to 70mph.

But Saturday was provisionally named the hottest day of the year so far with 20.9C recorded, the Met Office said, with the mercury reaching 19.5C in London.
