Rush hour commuters faced major delays this morning after a power failure sparked disruption into one of London's busiest stations.

South Western Railway passengers reported being trapped on trains up to three hours on Tuesday following an electrical supply problem between Clapham Junction and Waterloo station.

The rail firm said power on the line had been recharged at around 11.30am.

But passengers have been warned of disruption until 4pm with trains running to and from Waterloo expected to be delayed, cancelled or revised.

Those trying to get to Waterloo have hit out, claiming they have been waiting a large amount of time to move on the tracks.

David Lucas-Smith said his 45-minute-long journey took three hours today.

He tweeted: “Over three hours on my 45 minutes trip to Waterloo but what a relief to hear that the cause is an electrical issue rather than something more horrible.

“Credit to the driver and guard who have been very professional”.

Jack Courtez wrote: “Been stuck under a tunnel between Woking and Waterloo for approximately 2.5 hours now.”

And Mik Thompson wrote: “Nearly three hours stuck on the train outside Waterloo. Wonderful stuff.”said: "

South Western Rail said: "The specialist has completed their tasks and the recharge has been completed. Those trapped trains are expected to be on the move imminently."

Disruption is expected to last until 4pm, it added.
