London Victoria delays: 'Severe disruption' hits frustrated commuters as two trains are stranded because of power failure

Commuters were stranded on two Southeastern trains near Victoria after a power failure, causing most trains to come to a standstill in the area.

National Rail said an "extremely limited service" was running in and out of the station while the two trains were being dealt with.

Services began to resume at around 3pm, although Southeastern said there would be delays into the evening.

Angry passengers took to social media earlier on Friday to vent their frustration.

"Is this the quickest you can handle this situation?" asked one person on Twitter who claimed to be a passenger stuck on board.

"It’s now 2 hours since we got the train. Apart from some shocking movements, the train is till stuck."

Another passenger reported that the second broken-down train was ironically the one sent to "get them moving".

Southeastern said that of the two stuck trains, one has been moved while one was still stranded.

It later said the second stranded train was finally on the move. It wrote: "Because the train lost power, it's compressor couldn't pump the needed air to release it's brakes, so a rescue train has done that.

"All should be open fully in the next 15 mins."

Southeastern previously said on Twitter that there was "severe disruption" around Victoria after a power supply problem sparked the breakdown.

It urged commuters to find other ways to get to their destination.

"Please avoid area where possible and seek alternate transport, Tickets are being accepting on Tube, Buses and Southeastern High Speed," it wrote.
