London Underground Bank station evacuated as fight between passengers 'sparks stampede'

Bank station on the London Underground has been evacuated this morning amid reports of a fight between passengers. 

Witnesses described panic at the central London station during the evacuation, with journalist Nick Pettigrew writing on Twitter: "Just been evacuated from Bank Station.

"A lot of people panicking, visibly upset.

"Almost a stampede in the escalators.

"No idea what the emergency is. Station staff dealing with it really well.

"Would avoid if possible."

Docklands Light Railway said on Twitter: "Disruption Alert - Fire alarm activation at Bank.

"No service between Bank and Shadwell while we respond to a fire alarm activation." 

Another commuter tweeted: "Something going on at Bank station - was crushed into lift with others with shouts of 'run run'."

The commuter then added: "Now emergency services arriving."
