What is a signal fault?
07:42 , Nuray BulbulThis section of the railway relies on track circuits to identify where trains are. When a circuit malfunctions, it can falsely indicate that a train is occupying the line, preventing following services from progressing.
In these situations, drivers are required to halt at red signals and obtain spoken authority to continue at reduced speed, a process that can lead to major delays, particularly on longer stretches of track.
The issue may stem from electronic faults or objects interfering with the track. Network Rail is currently looking into the problem and will provide further information once it becomes available.
