The London Underground is suffering significant disruption this morning with service suspensions affecting a number of lines.
At just after 6.30am, the Circle line was completely suspended due to a points failure at High Street Kensington.
The same issue halted service on the District line between Tower Hill and Ealing Broadway, with severe delays on other sections.
Meanwhile, there was no service between Charing Cross and Camden Town northbound on the Northern line because of signal failure at Warren Street.

Strike action on London Northwestern Railway suspended

Strike action by members of the TSSA union has been suspended.
The industrial action was scheduled to affect London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway services on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August.
A normal timetable will now operate on all routes on both days.

Severe delays on the Elizabeth line

Waterloo East and Charing Cross remain shut

There are delays across a host of tube and train services in London as we head into late afternoon.
On the Central line there are minor delays between North Acton and Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip, as well as between Leytonstone and Epping and Hainault via Newbury Park, due to train cancellations.
On the Piccadilly line, there are minor delays westbound between Acton Town and Heathrow terminals due to the same points failure at Acton Town that caused the District line suspension.
The Victoria line continues to operate with minor delays after a track fault at Highbury & Islington, while severe delays are still present on the Metropolitan line between Moor Park and Watford due to train cancellations.

The Northern line has been suspended for a second time on Wednesday, this time on its Edgware branch.
According to a TfL update, there is currently no service between Camden Town and Edgware as engineers work to fix a points failure at Hampstead.
The rest of the line continues to operate with severe delays as a result of a faulty train at East Finchley, which was a knock-on effect of the line being part suspended due to a casualty at Highgate station.
South Western Railway announce heatwave timetable

South Western Railway (SWR) has announced a reduction in its timetable into London and slower train speeds after the recent prolonged hot weather.
Connections between Waterloo and Exeter St Davids will take up to 24 minutes longer, with return journeys taking 27 minutes longer than scheduled.
The timetable between London Waterloo and Yeovil Junction will be reduced to one train per hour.
SWR said it would be bringing in the changes, effective from 10 August, in response to the series of heatwaves being experienced in the UK this summer.
“Record-breaking heat and low rainfall have dried out the clay embankments between Salisbury and Exeter, affecting track stability,” said a spokesman. “To keep customers safe, we’re introducing speed restrictions between Tisbury and Honiton.”
Major disruption to Gatwick trains

Gatwick Airport-bound travellers are being advised to use the Elizabeth line for their journey due to major disruption impacting train lines in and out of London.
Great Western Railway (GWR) services between Reading and Gatwick Airport are being impacted following a person being hit by a train in the Guildford area on Wednesday morning.
GWR said passengers travelling to and from Gatwick Airport can use their train tickets at no extra cost on Elizabeth line trains between Reading and Farringdon. At Farringdon, passengers can change for a Thameslink train to Gatwick Airport.
Network Rail said the disruption, which is also affecting South Western Railway services between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour, is expected to last until at least 3pm.

Highgate station reopens

The part suspension of the Northern line southbound between East Finchley and Archway has been lifted, a spokesman for TfL said.
The entire line is running with severe delays in the aftermath of a casualty at Highgate station on Wednesday morning.
Highgate station was shut for more than two hours before reopening at about 10.10am.
A spokesman said the severe delays were a knock-on effect of the earlier suspension on the High Barnet branch of the line. A train waiting at East Finchley suffered a failure, causing it to become stuck on the tracks, he said.
Air ambulance was dispatched to Highgate incident

The London Ambulance Service mobilised its air ambulance to the incident in Highgate, with crews on the scene in four minutes.
In a statement, a spokesman for the capital’s ambulance service said: “We were called at 7.59am today to reports of a person hit by a train at Highgate Underground Station, N6.
“We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“Our first paramedics arrived in four minutes.
“Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Charing Cross and Waterloo East closed

Major London train terminals Charing Cross and Waterloo East are shuttered today as part of a three-week £20 million upgrade.
The track and infrastructure changes will replace equipment that has been in place since 1990, which Network Rail says will help to improve reliability and keep journeys running smoothly.
Both stations will remain closed until Sunday, August 16. The closures are affecting Southeastern services, with trains that normally run into Charing Cross being diverted to London Victoria, London Cannon Street and London Blackfriars instead.
Archway station reopens

The Northern line part suspension briefly caused Archway station to shut due to overcrowding.
The High Barnet branch of the line is currently suspended southbound between East Finchley and Archway due to a casualty at Highgate.
With passengers heading to Archway in search of southbound services, TfL announced at 9.48am that the station was open for exit only due to overcrowding. It was reopened to passengers boarding trains by 10.03am.

Victoria line severe delays

The Victoria line is operating with severe delays on Wednesday morning due to a track fault at Highbury & Islington.
Tube passengers reported being advertised to use alternative routes during rush hour due to overcrowding on Victoria line platforms.
A TfL spokesman said tickets are being accepted on London buses. He also pointed to other train services available on the Weaver and Suffragette lines, Great Northern, Thameslink, Greater Anglia, South Western Railway and Southeastern, taking any reasonable route to complete a journey during the delays.
Northern line part suspension

A spokesman for Transport for London (TfL) confirmed there was a casualty on the track on Wednesday morning near Highgate station on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line.
Southbound trains are not running between East Finchley and Archway as a result. Northbound trains are able to travel through the station but passengers are unable to alight.
