London travel news LIVE: Fenchurch Street Station trains mostly running normally again after fire shut railway line

A major train station had to shut early as firefighters battled a blaze in east London early on Thursday morning.

About 60 firefighters tackled the blaze in a commercial unit located beneath a railway arch near Rhodeswell Road, Mile End.

As a precaution, the train line running into Fenchurch Street Station was suspended.

Commuters were advised to check with c2c for updates on rail services.

The unit, used as a car workshop, caught fire early this morning and was eventually brought under control just before 6am.

Firefighters remained on scene through the morning, working to extinguish remaining pockets of fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and there are no reports of any injuries.

Emergency services were first called to the scene just before 4am, the LFB confirmed. Fire crews from Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell and nearby stations attended.

Minor delays on the Central and Northern lines

As a result, the 23:02 Barking Riverside to Gospel Oak service will terminate at Upper Holloway.

Reduced late night and early morning service between New Cross Gate and West Croydon and Crystal Palace

Commuters hit by disruption following fire

Train services running between London and Essex have been disrupted following the fire.

Rail operator c2c has warned its whole network is facing delays and has told commuters that disruption is expected until 7.45am on Thursday.

It explained that the fire took place next to the track between West Ham High Level and Limehouse stations.

c2c runs trains between Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness, serving 26 stations in the capital and south Essex,
