London street photography: how to capture a fragment of reality and suspend it in time

These photographs were all taken in London over the past four years while I was waandering around the streets, watching the people and discovering what makes this city tick.

Street photography is a way to connect with people, to communicate, to freeze a moment that can stay forever by capturing what is simply a fragment of reality. I started taking street photographs as a way to combat anxiety, with the camera acting like a shield. It was simply a great way to get out and connect again with my environment.

I tend to opt for black and white, mostly because there is a timeless quality to it; removing colour helps the subject stand out more, bringing the focus to the human element. London is chaotic but somehow that chaos is reduced when looking through a frame. Viewing the city through a lens has made it much friendlier and easier to fall in love with again and again.
