London shopkeeper fights back after masked robber pulls gun

This is the moment a screaming shopkeeper hurls a confectionery stand to fight off a masked gunman attempting to rob his London store.

CCTV footage shows a hoodedman enter an off-licence in Shadwell at 11.10pm on Tuesday.

The man, posing as a customer, says to the man standing alone behind the till: “Hello, my friend, have you got a black bag.”

The vendor, in his 40s, appears confused and asks him to repeat the question as the robber whips out a gun.

Reacting quickly the defenceless shopkeeper launches into a fit of screams and hurls a rack of chocolate bars at the gunman.

The startled robber uses the black pistol to strike the vendor in the head before fleeing the store.

Armed officers conducted a search for the gunman but no arrests have been made so far.

A Met spokeswoman said police were called to the incident at 11.13pm.

“The suspect, who was reported to be holding a firearm, then fled the scene.

“A man aged in his 40s was treated for a head injury at hospital. His injury was not life threatening.”

Enquiries are continuing.
