London Shell Co. to launch second floating restaurant The Grand Duchess

Floating seafood restaurant London Shell Co. has announced it is to launch its second venue this summer, on board a barge called The Grand Duchess.

The Grand Duchess will be permanently moored on the Regent’s Canal in Paddington, while the Prince Regent the barge that houses the original restaurant will continue to run dining cruises along the canal.

As Hot Dinners are reporting, the restaurant will officially open on June 10, with bookings open from May 14 and walk-in spots available at the bar everyday.

Unlike London Shell Co.’s first venue, the new restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner seven days a week. The 40-capacity space will also offer drinks and bar snacks, as well as a private dining space in the bow of the boat called The Captain’s Table.

While The Grand Duchess will not offer cruise dinners, it will be fitted with a large glass panel along the side of the boat, allowing diners to look out onto the canal while they eat.

The restaurant will continue London Shell Co.'s focus on British seafood, alongside a wine list centred around sparkling wine, with a total of 50 different varieties on offer.

Dishes will include the likes of a monkfish and wild garlic Kiev with new season lettuce, croutons and anchovies, beer-battered lobster with fried curry leaves, and a “Surf’n’Turf” dish that mixes 500g of Dexter rib with grilled langoustines in garlic butter.

“We are so excited to open this boat,” said co-founders and siblings Harry and Leah Lobek. “It has been three years in the planning. In our opinion, there is no more romantic or exciting setting to eat fish than on a boat.

“We have always dreamt of opening a static restaurant ‘where you can have your hake and eat it’.”

The Grand Duchess will open at Sheldon Square, Paddington, W2 6EP on June 10. For more information and to book, visit londonshellco.com
