London schoolgirl trapped after high winds bring down tree outside school

A girl has been rushed to hospital after being hit by tree felled by high winds outside her south London school.

The schoolgirl was trapped under the tree after it came down outside the King Henry secondary school in Erith at 8am on Thursday, as powerful gales battered the capital.

Emergency service workers rushed to the scene.

They were able to free the girl from beneath the tree and she was taken to hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8:07am today (11 March) to reports of a person injured by a falling tree on Ramsden Road, Erith.

"We sent an ambulance crew and treated a child and took them to hospital."

There have been no updates on the girl's condition or her age.
