The West End theater district, one of London's busiest entertainment areas, will keep the lights dark through at least the end of May as the U.K. struggles to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
All shows are canceled through May 31, an extension of the shutdown from its previous end date of April 26, officials announced Monday.
"We are so sorry that in these testing and difficult times you are not able to enjoy the show you have booked for," the Society of London Theatre said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming you back into our theaters as soon as we are allowed to resume performances. In the meantime stay safe and healthy."
The West End shut down in mid-March, more than a week before Prime Minister Boris Johnson locked down England. Affected shows include "The Book of Mormon," "Cinderella," "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Hamilton."
The Olivier Awards, London's version of the Tony Awards, have been postponed as well from the originally scheduled date of April 5.
More than 48,000 people in the United Kingdom have tested positive for coronavirus so far. At least 4,900 have died.
