London's narrowest home at just 5ft 5in wide goes on the market for almost £1m

London's narrowest house, which is just 5ft 5in wide in some parts, is on the market for nearly £1m.

The five-floor property, which can be found in Shepherd's Bush, is made up of 1,034 sq ft and offers two bedrooms, a roof terrace, and a garden room.

And the former hat shop could be yours for £995,000, nearly double what it was last sold for 11 years ago.

The unique home was sold for £595,000 in 2009 to a lawyer who has since moved abroad.

Formerly owned by fashion photographer Juergen Teller in the 1990s, the narrow house is located between a pizza restaurant and a nail salon.

The long ground floor entrance leads into a spacious reception room, with the kitchen, just 5ft 5in wide, found on the lower ground floor.

But where it lacks in width, the kitchen makes up for in length - more than 24ft in fact, before you come to the dining area or garden room, which then leads to the garden.

The kitchen includes a forest green Aga providing central heating.

A spiral staircase leads to the first floor, where a very narrow 5ft 10in second bedroom can be found, along with a study, which is slightly wider at 6ft.

The end of this floor lies a roof terrace, offering views of west London.

One the second floor, a bathroom and shower room can be found, which ultimately leads to the master bedroom on the fifth level, which comes with a built-in-bed, but is only 6ft 2 in wide.

Simon Waller, who is handling the sale of the property, said it is easy to get lost in the house, after he attended a New Year's Eve party in 1994 that lasted for four days.

He told The Telegraph: "It was terribly bohemian - you could get lost in the different worlds over the five floors.

"Each owner has sprinkled their own fairy dust on it. The current owner likens it to a classic car - she's tinkering with it constantly."

Despite being narrow, the kitchen is 24ft long (PA)

Speaking about being the narrowest home in the capital, Mr Waller added: "We did see a contemporary one which was five foot wide but my managing director isn't sure if it is deemed fit for human habitation."

Although it may be the narrowest house in London, it isn't quite the thinnest in the UK.

That is thought to be in Portsmouth, with the terraced house just 4ft 10 in wide.

The property has a front room - with an open fireplace - a kitchen on the first floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

It also comes with a courtyard garden at the back which has a wooden shed on the patio.

The tiny-fronted home shot to stardom after appearing in the  Guinness Book of Records  in 1985 as the house with the narrowest frontage in Britain - a small plaque outside even notes the accolade.
