London's most purchased beauty product revealed: colour changing lipstick

London's most purchased beauty product the Barry M colour changing lipstick - (Superdrug)

Londoners’ most purchased beauty products have been revealed in a study which collated data from millions of Superdrug customers across the city.

The capital’s most loved product was the Barry M Genie Lip Paint – a lipstick which changes colour according to the alkaline in your lips, creating a shade unique to each wear.

Priced at £5.99, the colour-changing lipsticks come in green, yellow and pink – all of which ultimately adapt to appear as different shades of pink.

The Rimmel London Thrill Seeker Mascara came in second place – a bold, lash-lengthening mascara containing panthenol – also known as provitamin B5 – which hydrates lashes, preventing them from becoming brittle.

London’s third favourite beauty product was the L’Oréal’s Infallible 3-Second Setting Spray, and the top hair product was Elvive Extraordinary Hair Oil –unsurprising choices to prevent makeup sweating off and fight the frizz caused by extreme temperatures on the Tube which can reach up to 33C on hotter days.

Real data was collected via 19 million shoppers using Superdrug’s Health & Beautycard when making purchases across the United Kingdom.

Superdrug used the data to launch the #YouBeauty campaign which reveals the beauty habits of different cities across the UK and allows customers to shop regional favourites.

The study found beauty favourites and habits changed across regions – Liverpool’s hero product was the Got2b Glued 4 Brows & Edges for bold brows and the favourite in Edinburgh’s was La Roche-Posay SPF 50 suncream.

Nation-wide hero shopping choices include the Elf Power Grip Primer which is a go-to for glazed finishes and long-wear glam, along with the Got2b Freeze Blasting Spray to keep every hair strand locked in place.

Other UK-wide favourites include Superdrug’s Vitamin E Facial Mist ‘mist-and-go’ and Vaseline’s Cocoa Radiant Body Oil.

The regional favourites:

  • Brighton – the Superdrug Fruity Coconut & White Peach Shower Gel
  • Liverpool - Got2b Glued 4 Brows & Edges
  • Edinburgh - La Roche-Posay SPF 50
  • Belfast - Superdrug Cleansing Charcoal Mask
  • Leeds - Superdrug Extracts Cherry Blossom Scrub
  • Birmingham - Studio London U Dew U Setting Mist
  • Cardiff - Maybelline Sky High Mascara
  • Bristol - I Heart Love Crush Bath Fizzer

Simon Comins, Chief Operating Officer at Superdrug, said: “What’s amazing is just how individual these beauty habits are.

“From bold brows in Liverpool to specialist suncare in Edinburgh, it’s clear that beauty in the UK isn’t one-size-fits-all, it’s personal, regional, and constantly evolving.

“We’re proud to shine a light on the everyday icons and viral heroes that are really making an impact in people’s routines, and to celebrate the beauty of real choice.”

Frank McMullan and Tommy Keddie, Regional General Managers at Superdrug, said: “Londoners know how to turn heads, and their product choices prove it.

“From custom lip shades to next-level skincare, their beauty bags are packed with high-impact heroes and international influences.

“It’s been amazing to see such standout picks take the lead, and we can’t wait to celebrate these powerful choices throughout the summer.”
