A 350-room five-star “super boutique” hotel in Leicester Square is to open in September in London’s biggest hospitality launch since the start of the pandemic.
The Londoner had originally been scheduled to be ready for guests last summer but owners Edwardian Hotels London, which is a partner of the Evening Standard’s London Rising series, were forced into a series of postponements by Covid lockdowns and other restrictions.
Confirmation that the 16-storey hotel, where rooms start from £400 a night, will press ahead with opening will be seen as a major boost for the West End.
It has a six-level basement, one of the deepest in the world, and has been dubbed London’s first “iceberg hotel”.
Features include six restaurants and bars, a cinema, a wellness floor with a gym and 25-metre pool, a 6,000 sq ft ballroom, and a 24-hour private members’ club space for guests called The Residence, with its own whisky room.
The biggest suite, the Tower Penthouse duplex, covers 200 sq metres.
Most of the food and drink venues will be open to the public, including the ground floor Whitcomb’s, which will serve Mediterranean food, and a lobby champagne bar called The Stage.
There will also be a new gin-led bar called Joshua’s Tavern.
