London Road fire: Road closed as crews battle blaze at derelict car wash in Edinburgh

Fire crews have been battling a blaze at a derelict car wash on Edinburgh's London Road this afternoon.

News of the incident emerged shortly before 3pm today (Friday) with three fire appliances called to attend.

The route was shut off to traffic between Jock's Lodge and Marionville Road as a result.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News posted on social media: "London Road is closed between Jock's Lodge and Marionville Road due to a fire."

Lothian Buses tweeted to say that services five, 26, 104, 106 and 24 were all diverted. However this diversion has now ended.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.24pm on Friday, April 3 to reports of a fire within a derelict car wash on London Road, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene where firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

“Crews left after making the area safe.”
