London pubs packed as ecstatic England rugby fans celebrate New Zealand win

Pubs across London were packed this morning as ecstatic England rugby fans celebrated the side's passage to the World Cup final.

As the semi-final against New Zealand kicked off, thousands of supporters filled bars across the capital to watch the England team, which was playing 6,000 miles away in Yokohama.

And there were rapturous scenes in every single one when the 19-7 victory was confirmed just before 11am.

Some pubs have been opening early on Rugby World Cup match days on account of the time difference between the UK and Japan.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, meanwhile, was among the high profile figures who congratulated the England team afterwards.

He tweeted: "Immense effort by @EnglandRugby, many congratulations to the whole team. Now for the final!"

His rival, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, also posted: "Congratulations to the @EnglandRugby team on an incredible team performance and hard-fought victory against the @AllBlacks. Hopefully it's an @EnglandRugby vs @WalesRugby final!"
