London pizzeria to sell slices for 71p to highlight plight of hospitality industry

Spend 71 pennies: Bad Boy Pizza is hoping to get the attention of the government - (Bad Boy Pizza)

Londoners will be able to bag New York-style pizza slices for just 71p on Thursday as part of a campaign to support the hospitality industry.

Traders at Seven Dials Market will also be selling bowls of cacio e pepe for £1.50, bao and gyoza boxes for £1 each, Syrian chicken wraps for £1.15 and fried chicken sandos for £2.40.

The stunt is the work of market owners Kerb and digital magazine London on the Inside to shine a light on the economics of running a restaurant.

Both have partnered to urge the government to cut costs for businesses, which they say are facing “razor-thin margins” due to rising overheads and high taxes.

Involved in the sale are names such as Bad Boy Pizza, Arnabeet, Mezzo and Lucky’s Fried Chicken, all of which have slashed prices by as much as 90 per cent in the hope of informing consumers about the challenges they face.

The price drop will be available for just one hour — expect monstrous queues — beginning at 1pm on November 20. Each trader will be selling a limited number of dishes.

The move comes ahead of the Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ forthcoming Budget on November 26, which many in the industry believe with cause further strain on small businesses.
