A large-scale pro‑Palestinian demonstration is taking place central London on Saturday, drawing participants who say that despite recent diplomatic agreements, much work remains to be done.
The protest comes in the wake of a tentative ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, brokered with international mediators, under which hostages are to be released and Israeli military operations paused.
Still, protesters argue that a formal agreement alone is not enough. Many are demanding full implementation of the ceasefire terms, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of all Palestinian detainees.
They also point to recurring violations, delays in humanitarian access, and skepticism over whether the pause in hostilities will hold long term.
Organised by a coalition of activist groups, the protest is scheduled to pass through key sites in the capital.
Meanwhile, Stop The Hate has organised a counter-protest, at the junction of Aldwych and the Strand.
The Metropolitan Police has implemented conditions under the Public Order Act to manage crowds and ensure public safety amid concerns the two protests could create a flashpoint.
