London Paddington to reopen as repair work on several major train routes comes to an end

Repair work on several major train routes including Great Western Railway is set to come to an end on Thursday.

Network Rail had around 25,000 workers implementing updates, and improvements to train routes throughout London.

The updates made up part of London’s biggest ever Christmas rail shutdowns.

Paddington Station is set to reopen with Great Western Railway running services on an amended timetable.

However the West Ealing to Greenford branch will not run.

The Heathrow Express will also begin running again on December 27.

Over the coming days, the line will have trains to the airport every 30 minutes with some amended departure times.

Services on the Heathrow Express will return to normal on New Year’s Day.

While on Southeastern, a normal Saturday service will run on Thursday and Friday.

For those heading to Stansted Airport, hourly services will be running between Liverpool Street and Stagnated Airport on December 27, 28.

Meanwhile major works to replace worn tracks south of Victoria continue to disrupt rail routes until January 2, with buses replacing the local link to a “very busy” Clapham Junction.

Engineering work is being carried out at London Waterloo, meaning trains will be running less frequently and on a different timetable for most of Christmas, with most trains running to and from Clapham Junction instead.

Additional services will be operating between Waterloo and Clapham Junction on December 23, 24, 27 and 28 to help ferry people around.

On Southern rail, engineering works at Battersea will affect Southern services throughout the period with trains not running between London Victoria and Clapham Junction from Sunday 23 until January 1.

Services will instead be diverted to London Bridge.
