London murders: Four murder probes launched in three days in weekend of bloodshed in capital

Four murder probes have been launched in the capital in three days after a weekend of bloodshed in London.

In the first incident, a man in his 30s was gunned down in north west London.

Armed officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Harrow Road, Wembley, just after 8pm on Friday.

The man, who was found with gunshot wounds, died in hospital a short time later. No arrests have been made.

A murder investigation was also launched after a woman’s body was discovered in south east London.

Officers were called to a set of garages in Prendergast Road, Blackheath, at 5pm on Friday, where the body was discovered.

The woman's identity is yet to be formally established but the family of a woman in her 50s who was reported missing on May 15 have been informed, police said.

A post-mortem examination held at Greenwich mortuary on Sunday did not establish cause of death, which officers are treating as suspicious. No arrests have been made.

A third murder inquiry was launched after a man was gunned down in Leyton on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to Phoenix snooker club, in Lea Bridge Road, at 3am, where they found a man, believed to be aged in his late 20s, suffering from a gunshot injury.

Paramedics battled to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Scotland Yard said. The victim has not been formally identified.

Two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The fourth murder probe was launched after a man was found with serious head injuries in Wembley on Sunday - 48 hours after the fatal shooting nearby.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at Brent River Park at 7.05pm.

Inspector Sammi Elsituri said after the death: "This incident will no doubt alarm and shock those in the local community especially coming so soon after a fatal shooting in Wembley on Friday night.

"My officers are busy at the crime scene and will be knocking on doors and reviewing local CCTV footage to help build a clearer picture of what has taken place.

"Specialist police resources are in the area working to help solve this crime and provide reassurance to the public. Officers will be on hand to speak to locals about concerns they have.

"We will work relentlessly - day and night - to identify and pursue the culprits, bring them to justice, and take weapons off the streets to keep our communities safe."

In another incident, a mother and three children were knifed in a vicious attack on Saturday night.

The family sustained “very serious injuries” during the quadruple stabbing in Bounds Green, Enfield.

They are now in a stable condition.

A 44-year-old man, known to them, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, Scotland Yard said.

Detective Sergeant Joe Stewart, of Enfield Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said on Sunday: "This was an appalling attack on a woman and her young children.

"They have sustained very serious injuries. Our thoughts are with them as they continue to receive vital treatment in hospital.”
