London Mayoral candidate Rory Stewart shares bath water with the rest of his family

Rory Stewart has revealed he shares his bath water with the rest of his family to save money.

The London Mayoral candidate has been getting up close and personal with the public with his #ComeKipWithMe scheme where he spends the night at Londoner's sofas - at their invitation.

Appearing on the Jeremy Vine show the former Tory MP was forced to admit his frugal habits when it comes to washing.

He said: "It's even worse than you think - the two-year-old and the five-year-old and my wife."

And he revealed that it often leads his family to get a little too personal.

He explained: "There's often a very, very awkward conversation with the two year old where I stare at him and say 'did you pee in daddy's Bath?'

"And he goes 'no daddy' and as soon as I get in my wife said 'he did you know'".

The former Tory leadership hopeful explained: "I started doing this as a young child, we continued doing it sometimes when I was in the army and when we were in operations."

He added: "(It is) something that I now do because I care about environmental things.

"This connects the Victorian with the 21st Century, but unfortunately it involves my two-year-old peeing in the bath."

Mr Stewart is running against Conservative candidate Shaun Bailey and current Labour mayor Sadiq Khan.
