London Marathon 2019
Women's elite race
Start time: 9.15am, Sunday April 28

Kenyan duo Mary Keitany and Vivian Cheruiyot will renew their rivalry when they meet in one of the best women’s elite fields ever assembled at the London Marathon, on Sunday.

2017 winner Keitany was on course to defend her title last year, but paid the price for chasing Paula Radcliffe’s world record as she blew up in the latter stages of the race, allowing Cheruiyot to take come through the field and take the win.

The pair met again in New York last November, when Keitany exacted revenge with a comfortable victory, almost four minutes clear of Cheruiyot in second.

They are by no means the only contenders though, in a star-studded field which features four of the ten fastest women of all time, and the winners of four of the six major marathons last year.

Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei and Gladys Cherono won in Chicago and Berlin respectively, while in Birhane Dibaba, who won the Tokyo marathon back in 2015, there is also another woman who knows what it takes to win a major.

The British challenge is headed by Lily Partridge, who was eighth last year, and Charlotte Purdue, who won the Big Half last month.
