London Marathon 2019: Thirty-eight Guinness World Records broken in this year's race

Thirty-eight new Guinness World Record titles have been set at the 39th London Marathon.

A total of 78 runners showed up to Sunday’s 26.2 mile race aiming to enter the record books.

Oliver Williams was the first across the line, setting a new best for the fastest marathon dressed as an awareness ribbon (male), in a time of two hours and 36 minutes.

Thomas Brockwell, beat the previous best time for fastest marathon dressed as a love heart (male) by just 23 seconds, with a time of three hours, five minutes and 32 seconds.

"The last 800m were hell when I saw just how close it was. The legs are now fully dead," he told Guinness World Records.

The successful new record holders were presented with certificates as they crossed the finish line.

Oscar White set the new record for fastest marathon dressed as a tent, in three hours, fifty-seven minutes - three minutes under his target.

He described the achievement as a “Hollywood finish”.

"The race was brilliant, the atmosphere was absolutely electric and the support was unlike any other race I've ever done, lined with thousands of people,” he added.

Kate Carter, dressed as a panda, broke the female record for fastest marathon in a full-body animal costume, finishing in three hours and forty-eight minutes.

"It was an amazing experience. It was really hard in a different way from normal running, but also just magical,” she said.

“The looks on kids faces as you go passed them was just amazing. The support in London is always amazing, but running in a furry suit just blows it out the water, 'go panda, go panda, go panda' just constantly.”

Eliud Kipchoge achieved the fastest male time to run a marathon with a time of two hours, two minutes and thirty-seven seconds.
