London house prices: Monopoly board makeover shows true price of property

An estate agent has given Monopoly a makeover to show that Old Kent Road might still be the cheapest spot on the board, but it will cost a whole lot more than £60 to put a house there.

The average house price in Old Kent Road is now £261,499. Next door in Whitechapel, property costs an average of £379,000.

Vine Street, once one of the coveted orange spaces on the board, where a house cost £200, has slipped to the third cheapest, with property at £539,663 on average. Its orange neighbour Malborough Street, priced at £180 on the board, has gone up the table to become the third most expensive location, with prices of £2.5 million on average.

Mayfair, which is worth £400 on the board, keeps its place at the top, but property there is now an eye watering £3.5 million on average.

Estate agent Hanover used house price data for October 2015 to put together the new Monopoly board, which celebrates the game's 80th anniverary.

Richard Douglas, director at Hanover’s West End office, said: “We anticipated that there would be differences in the property market from 80 years ago, however the extent to how much it has changed is surprising."
