London food map: Which cuisines are popular in which parts of the capital

There are a wide range of culinary experiences to be had in London, and the cuisines most popular in different areas of the capital have now been mapped out by YouGov.

The polling company used profile data from its members to show which cuisines are "most liked" in which regions of the capital, and created the map above.

In north London, Greek and Middle Eastern dishes figure heavily, while in the affluent west London, Italian and French are the most popular.

In east London, the pollster's data shows the most popular cusines are Chinese, American and English.

Although that finding may surprise those familiar with the delights of Brick Lane's array of Indian restaurants, the 'east London' area used for the map is a large geographic area taking in predominantly white parts of Essex, a large Chinese community in Greenwich and a number of London's Eastern European communities.

Indian cuisine is number one in south London, with its large population of mainly Gujarati Indians in areas like Tooting.

YouGov also attributes this to a large Tamil community in south London, a group that is much less prominent in other parts of the city.
