London flooding: Roads underwater as torrential rain causes chaos in the capital

Roads are underwater with flooding warnings issued after torrential rain caused chaos in London.

Residents have reported water running across roads and pavements, as well as blocked drains.

A photo taken in Kilburn, north London, shows a flooded street during the morning rush hour, My London reports.

One concerned resident said: "Flooding on Kilburn High Road. Blocked drains. Flooding pavement too."

Geoff Barraclough, City of Westminster Councillor for Maida Vale, tweeted: "Plenty of talk at the flooding meeting last night about gullies.

"I just found (and reported) two block drains on a short stretch of Kilburn Park Road."

Other areas affected by heavy rain this morning include the A13 in Romford, the North Circular (Eastbound) in Woodford, Tower Bridge Approach in Central London and the A12 in Hackney Wick.

Flooding has also been reported in Woolwich and other areas of southeast London.

A person published a tweet warning motorists of the dangers of driving due to water on the roads.

Meanwhile, councils around the capital have warned residents of further risk of flooding at the weekend.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain and winds tomorrow.

Strong winds and heavy rain are expected in the afternoon and evening, leading to some disruption to travel.

A warning is in force from 1pm to 10pm tomorrow and covers coastal areas in southern and eastern England.

A separate yellow warning for rain has also been issued for northern Scotland and will be in force from 4pm tomorrow until 6am on Sunday.

By the weekend, the UK is expected to see strong winds of up to 70mph and relentless rainfall that could see 5mm of rainfall an hour in some regions.
