Firefighters cuddled three-week-old puppies being handreared by one of Battersea’s many foster carers
(Picture: Battersea dog home)London Fire Brigade’s Battersea Blue Watch had a paw-fect time playing with the pooches at Battersea Dogs and CatsHome.
They gave their backing to the charity’s new Wear Blue for Rescue campaign which was launched to rally animal lovers across the UK in supporting rescue animals by proudly wearing a new symbol.
The firefighters were delighted to spend time with rescues an eight-year-old French Bulldog Maxwell who has been at Battersea for 163 days.
They also were joined by new arrival six-year-old Bichon Frise Troy, young German Shepherd pup Rose and four-year-old Italian Greyhound Ragu who has just gone to a loving home.

Leading Firefighter Tom O’Connor said: “Firefighters love animals too and we are often called to assist distressed or injured animals when our specialist equipment is required.
“These animals can unfortunately sometimes be strays, so it’s a real comfort to know there are charities like Battersea that are ready to help.
“It was a real privilege to meet some of Battersea’s current residents and see the fantastic work that’s being done there by the wonderful staff and volunteers.”
This year London Fire Brigade have already rescued 726 animals including 331 cats and 86 dogs as well as many other animals.
Battersea Rehoming and Welfare Manager Adele Tuttlebee added: “At Battersea we’re lucky enough to see every single day just how special rescue animals are. They may not be perfect but they’re certainly worth a second chance at life as a much-loved pet. We invite all animal lovers, whether recue pet owners or not, to proudly champion rescue and help us make ‘Rescue’ the nation’s favourite breed.”
Animal lovers can show their support by wearing the new Rescue symbol on a pin badge, T-shirt, tote bag or pet collar tag.
