London fashion week begins - the shows in pictures

London Fashion Week Day 2: A model at the Clements Ribeiro Runway Spring/Summer 2012 show
Clements Ribeiro: 'The duo were inspired by old prints from around their house. Highlights included guipiere lace boxer shorts, silk printed T-shirts and cashmere twin sets which served as a shorthand reminder as to why Clements is such a brilliant LFW label'

Clements Ribeiro: 'I am always happy to see the return of paisley and it was here in abundance, sometimes trimmed in lace, most in silk, ladylike pyjamas. My favorite look was the silk raglan sleeve top tucked in to a neat pencil skirt, all on paisley. Loved Sam McKnight's hair, back combed birdnest, tied low at the back with strands escaping.'

London Fashion Week Day 2: A model at the Maria Grachvogel S/S 2012 during London Fashion Week
Maria Grachvogel: 'Drapy, silky and fluid is MG's modus operandi. Throw in some wrap palazzo pants, a deco earring, the Savoy ballroom and some Atlanta Weller snake heels and you have next season feminine chic.'

London Fashion Week Day 2: A model at the Maria Grachvogel S/S 2012 during London Fashion Week
Maria Grachvogel: 'Maria Grachvogel doesnt hold with pandering to the latest in hipster tastes. This is both an advantage, and not. It means that she is free to design genuinely flattering, desirable clothes - her trousers are known by their devotees as 'the magic trousers', with good reason, and she does a great line in elegant, shapely evening wear that doesn't rely on having baby-giraffe legs to pull off. On the other hand, sometimes you wish she would pander a teeny bit more to downtown tastes.'

Maria Grachvogel: 'For spring, standouts were the dusty pink gowns, ruched trousers, and shorts - soon to be dubbed magic shorts, no doubt.'

Julien Macdonald: 'All the Russians, they are bankrupt now. It is all about China. That's where the new clients are coming from. So that was in my mind, and then I thought to myself - what do I like about summer?' Julien Macdonald on his collection Photograph: Ian Gavan/Getty

London Fashion: Models present outfits by designer Jaeger London
Jaeger: 'Jaeger's show notes said "late 60s/early 70s jet set and their hideaways in far flung exotic destinations." The show sort of did what it said on the tin. Think wide brim hats, broderie anglaise, splashes of yellow and a particulary nice cropped orange trouser.' Simon Chilvers Photograph: Joel Ryan/AP
