London mysterious 'gigantic loud bang' heard across city - but it's not what it seems

People living in London have reported hearing a loud bang this afternoon and there was some confusion around what caused it.

Londoners as far away as Holborn reported hearing the "gigantic bang", with a MyLondon reporter in Camden saying they "assumed it was thunder".

Locals claimed that a bomb was found and detonated near Stables Market in Camden, but the London Fire Brigade later said no explosion took place.

The area was cordoned off but the item was later declared safe and the cordon was lifted. It is believed that the loud noise was caused by thunder, the London Fire Brigade added.

The LFB said in a statement: "Firefighters assisted emergency services after a report of a suspected unexploded ordnance in #Camden.

"Following specialist examination, the item was declared safe and a cordon lifted. No explosion took place. A loud noise reported in the area is believed to have been thunder."
